As part of its annual Driver Power survey, Auto Express has revealed that Tesla is considered by customers to be the leading manufacturer in 2016.
Auto Express’s Driver Power survey asked 50,000 UK car owners to rank various models and manufacturers in a variety of ways. And having already won best car with the Model S, Tesla has now been crowned best manufacturer, according to car owners, with a record score of 97.46 per cent — just shy of six per cent clear of the next nearest manufacturer.

Coming in second on the line was Lexus, with a score of 91.57 per cent, followed by Skoda (90.45 per cent), Dacia (90.43 per cent) and MG (90.43 per cent) in the third, fourth and fifth positions respectively. The next five positions, in descending order, were: Jaguar, Porsche, Renault, Mazda, and Subaru.
There were ten categories that Auto Express asked car owners to consider when answering the survey: road handling, reliability, build quality, ease of driving, ride quality, practicality, running costs, performance, seat comfort and in-car technology.
Auto Express said of Tesla: “The company is ranked as best manufacturer, comfortably ahead of its closest challenger, and that’s purely down to the success of the Model S. Owners score the all-electric executive saloon incredibly strongly, and because Tesla is essentially a single-model brand there aren’t any older, weaker cars dragging its score down.”
